Disney Rides

Up

At the bottom on the left is an alphabetical list of the pages in this web site, to help you navigate if you feel so inclined.

A guide to our family photo album covering 1994-2010, showing the principal themes, is here.

A year by year guide to our family time-line from 1994 through 2007 is here.

A photo journal beginning in 2008 is here.

The most recent pages of the album, copies of posts from my WordPress family blog, http://ianstock.wordpress.com/, are linked here:

It's true.  We realize that four Disney pages is a lot in a family photo album.  But nothing that you can buy has given this family more pleasure than The Walt Disney Company.  Which is quite something if you think about it.

But you folks at Disney, if you should happen upon all our enthusiasm for what you do, please take note.  Three days admission to the theme parks at Disney World during the summer of 2000 cost us over $800, and that was with some creative accounting!  Isn't there anything that you can do to keep it down a bit for large families?  We're a relatively rare breed in the US, and a little help would make all the difference.

In fact, we have not made a collective visit to any Disney Park since that 2000 visit. In part that's because our adolescents would rather eat dirt than accompany their loving parents anywhere.  But all of them like Disney and would go with their friends. Because it adds up to too much we don't offer to bring friends too, and as a result our teenagers don't go at all. There's a little commercial subtlety missing here.

Above on the left is a Disney photo, one of those that they sell you after the ride.  The ride in this case was Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland in Paris in 1996.  We don't remember exactly when. Daphné and Nick are in the rear seat, and Tom, Papa and Alban in front. Maman probably missed this turn (to her great regret: she loves this ride, as you can see here!) to look after Charlie, who at one year old was too small to join us.

More photos of the "train fou" can be seen here.

On the right, Alban, as happy as a clam in the "boules." It's all an attraction

Below, a selection of rides in a selection of Disney parks.

Here we have Daphné, Alban and Nick at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, turning, turning, in Anaheim during the childrens' school vacation in March 1999.

This is the truck in the MGM Studios backlot that gets washed away by a flood as you watch.  They told us how many gallons of water splash down and make up the flood, but we forget.  Sorry!

For Christmas 1998, Daphné and Alban visited their father in St Germain, near Versailles, and Nick and Tom visited us in Santa Cruz

This was the time they had visited since we had been living apart.

We drove the 8 hours down to Disneyland.  This was Alex's first visit, and our first visit since arriving in the US.

Some of the rides, you don't even need to ride on.  September 1995.

Here's the same ride as the top left photo, in a different park: Alban Nick, Tom and Daphné with Paul in Marne-la-Vallée in early 1997

Finally, here's one that we snuck in of Cath and Jim, Ian's parents, at the original Disneyland in Anaheim in 1976, roughly.  They're in front of the Matterhorn. They had come over to visit their son and heir, who was studying in Berkeley, and drove up and down the California coast. Disneyland in Anaheim was then and is still required viewing, whatever your age or style.

Here are the Disney Residents.             And here the main Disney page.            And the decor.
