Laura and Damian's Wedding! On February 28, 2009, Laura and Damian tied the knot during a lovely ceremony in a little park on Coronado Island overlooking San Diego Bay. ![]() They were the second couple in the next generation of their family to tie the knot, after Laura's brother Antony and Courtney, also near San Diego, in 2003. It was also the second wedding in winter, but in San Diego the seasons matter very little. The Nashes are Ian's family, as is elaborated on this page. We were all invited, which in retrospect may have appeared a mistake: seven of the eight of us actually showed up! The only absence was Tom, who spent almost the entire year in Paris and whose absence was thus excused if still regretted. It was regretted even more because of the great photos that the wedding photographer took of the rest of us. Janet (www.purelycaptivating.com) took time out from the strenuous work of rigorously capturing every stage and facet of the wedding and reception to take a few of us. They are fabulous! This first photo on the page is one of them. Another is below, at the reception, and yet another is here.
We in the Stock Brun family made our separate ways down to San Diego. The parents flew down with Alex and Charlie, and the three "big kids" drove down in the Volvo. It was quite a production ensuring that all the children, big kids included, had a respectable outfit: there's not much call for respectable outfits for students in California! As a result, everyone had everything they needed, and Ian's garment bag was left behind in Santa Cruz! Plus, we all managed to arrive a little late to the Friday evening entertainment, the rehearsal dinner, hosted by the bride and groom in their home just south of San Diego. But it was still bopping, there was still food, and there may even still have been something to drink. It was one of those evenings that not everyone remembers very well! Laura and Damian are posing for Janet in the above photo, outside the reception before it started on Coronado Island. We see the Nashes rarely these days, less since they all moved to San Diego in around 2000, and had never met Damian even though he and Laura had been dating and living together for quite a while. ![]() Meeting Damian and his family (especially Uncle Bryan from Oklahoma, between Marie-Hélène and Ian in the photo opposite) was a real pleasure. Weddings all have their drama, and Damian marched through it all with considerable aplomb, and no pretenses. We tend to be allergic to pretenses, and can smell them a mile away. Alex is missing from this photo: we think that he was playing with a buddy he had found. The other face at the table is Ian's sister Sue, mother of the bride, between Alban and Nick in the photo opposite. We (the "normal" people in our family group) returned to the Hotel on the bus kindly provided for the wedding party. Alban, Daphné and Nick continued their evening with their cousin Antony. We don't know many of the details, which is probably a good thing! There were some odd stains on a jacket or two that we noted, and they all had a very difficult time getting up the next morning.
