Stamping
Marie-Hélène has reached that point in her life when hobby replaces hubby as the focus of attention (and we feel obliged to note at this point that Ian is not a whiner. Nor is he a chronic complainer. Certainly not!) Her chosen hobby is referred to as stamping, and encompasses making scrapbooks, cards and other decorative marvels. To celebrate Daphné's graduation from Harbor High School, her mother spent months composing a scrapbook of her childhood and coming of age, an exquisite collage of photographs and decor organized around several themes. One of two facing pages covering the theme of our times at Disneyland is on the left here. (The other is at the bottom of this web page.) One of the photos on this scrapbook page appears here. Marie-Hélène then completed a comparable scrapbook for Alban, given to him for his birthday following his High School graduation in 2007. But her principal stamping activity is the cards that she makes for birthdays and other occasions. Each Christmas, for example, we send her cards to the extended family. Stamping is a hobby which gives free rein to Marie-Hélène's obsession with color and decoration, and we may be biased but are very impressed with the results. And this despite their enormous cost! It's true that we no longer need to buy manufactured greetings cards, but estimate that each that she makes costs at least $10, some up to $20!
