Russ, Annie and Brendan, the Hanlons
Russ and Ian met at law school on the East Coast in the fall of 1979, introduced by Ian's Guinness sweatshirt. Ian was very flattered to be Russ's best man when he and Annie married in 1981 in Washington DC. They all shared a house on the beach the second year of law school with a group of people, and called it Hotel California. Both Ian and Russ had lived in Northern California before law school, Russ working as a paralegal in San Francisco and Ian as a student at UC Berkeley, and both missed California lots. One day, each was going to live there again. It took a while longer than either had planned, but they both now live in Santa Cruz. Of all the people that the Stock Berhaut Bruns received help and support from on arriving in California, none offered as much as the Hanlons. Here are Russ and Annie on his birthday in August 1997. Guess who is Australian! Actually, both have the color that reminds us of "down under", and for each it comes from the shared Irish ancestry.
We all went to Death Valley for Thanksgiving 2004, staying at the Furnace Creek Ranch and exploring the local splendors. None of the older children wanted to go, although of course they might have liked to with their friends! We had a great time together, as ever. So, Russ, let's hear it for the next twenty-five years!!
